Sand Paintings

Art and Culture Classes

Walangari regularly conducts classes on Aboriginal Art and Culture.

His Aboriginal cultural knowledge combined with his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees make his delivery informative, innovative and engaging.

He has conducted his own successful cross-cultural course and often uses his art as a means of explaining aspects of Aboriginal history and culture.

Walangari’s workshops for all age groups and his classes at schools, colleges and museums often incorporate his beautiful Sandpaintings.

Sandpaintings

"Utilising my skills as an artist and teacher, my Sandpaintings are a dynamic way of explaining my family’s cultural beliefs.

Drawing from our traditions as desert people, I am able to convey to the audience our knowledge of the cyclic elements of nature and the spirituality of the Dreamtime during the creative process.

Scaled to suit the venue, these vibrant images in coloured sand are a popular attraction at festivals, schools, conferences and the like.

As I explain the meaning of this form of living art to the audience, I encourage and guide them to participate in its creation.

The completed Sandpainting is exposed to the elements and allowed to gradually fade and return to the earth. In keeping with the concept of impermanence.

Its great fun and a delight for people of all ages."
